I’m always on the hunt for new places to experience with the boys and recently came across a fantastic travel website “Addicted To Maldives”. The site is run by the gorgeous Di, who like many of us has gone from travelling as a loved-up couple to a family traveller with children in tow.
Di has become an expert in what is arguably one of the most incredible, exotic and chosen holiday destinations to ‘flop and drop’ in the world. Her site helps demystify the Maldives as a holiday-haven not only for love birds, honeymooners and weddings/events but also for relaxing and exploring with kids.
Up to twice a year Di, her husband and two children, return to the Maldives to get their fix exploring and discovering new islands and resorts. And, today she’s kindly sharing a little slice of Maldives heaven with us along with her “Top 5 family friendly resorts” for us to consider for the future.
GUEST BLOGGER: Addicted to the Maldives: The Honeymoon is Over?
So the honeymoon is over and you have the kids to prove it (as we do)! Surely a destination like the Maldives is no longer an option now that you’ve swapped candle-lit dinners and Sunday morning sleep ins, for dirty nappies and Saturday’s spent on the side-line cheering the kids on in a local soccer match?
Years ago, you would probably be right in thinking that this dreamy destination was best for making babies and not taking babies! But times they are a changing and the Maldives now more than ever is the BEST destination for a memorable family holiday!
World class resorts with amazing villas that are often more like houses than a hotel room, specially created kids menus where chicken nuggets and fries come a distant second to healthier, creative alternatives, and amazing kids clubs that truly are a playground for the imagination!
The kids will spend their days hunting for hermit crabs, or snorkeling the colourful reefs, while budding junior chefs can take a pizza or sushi making class. Some might prefer riding a bicycle around the sandy pathways in search of a friendly island gecko or island bunny.
What is totally unexpected in the Maldives though is that a number of the activities offered for families and children are wait for it….educational! No need to feel guilty about “dumping” the kids off at kids club or as our daughter lovingly calls them “club kids”! Where else in the world will you find a kids program that offers a coral planting session with the onsite Marine Biologist or an Island Survival course where they learn what’s safe to touch and not, on a deserted island! Or perhaps they’d prefer being a Pirate for the day and heading out on board a traditional Dhoni in search for lost treasure below the turquoise seas.
Baby-sitting services and nannies offer parents the opportunity to indulge in some much-needed time out. Sipping cocktails by the pool, private sandbank picnics, spa time and romantic feet in sand dinners are just some of the ways to spend your days! The kids will be in holiday heaven with a special outdoor movie night under the stars!
Yes, the Maldives is perfect as a “drop and flop” holiday but it also offers something for those seeking a little more action too! Dive the great deep blue in search of a giant manta ray or whale shark or venture out to a nearby surf break and ride the waves. Jet skis, parasailing, tennis courts and even golf courses all make an appearance!
The Maldives truly does cater to the whole family and offers a memorable holiday in the most magical of settings.
So yes, the honeymoon may be over, but paradise is still a waiting!
Grab your passport, a couple of kaftans and a bikini or two and start planning the most amazing holiday you’re family will ever experience…I promise that you too will become “ADDICTED TO MALDIVES!”
PS…Don’t forget the kids!!
