If you’re looking for a unique experience that you can do with the family; but also the opportunity to relax, then please consider what i’m about to share with you.
Picture this: You board a boat. That boat transports you to a blissful location where your only job is to relax and take in the sea views. Freshly prepared meals are set out for you while you enjoy island life and explore crystal clear waters. There’s no washing up. No traipsing around with bags and kids in tow. Your home for the day is this vessel and it’s the perfect launching pad for family fun and indulgence.
Last week I had the opportunity to do just this. I took a memorable 75 minute cruise from Brisbane that transported me to Queensland’s beautiful Moreton Island as part of a Mum’s Day Off event. My ride: Aboard a Dolphins In Paradise cruise. My host: Leading tour and attraction company Experience Oz.
Moreton Day Trip Cruise Highlights
Enjoy a complete ship-to-shore experience with the ocean as your playground.
Gather the family, grab a pool noodle and life jacket for the kids and dive right in. We did a similar experience in St Martin’s Maho Beach when our boys were 5 and 3 and let me tell you there is nothing more enjoyable than jumping off a boat and splashing about in calm, crystal clear waters with your kids. It’s also a very safe activity. The water is so clear in parts that you can see the sandy sea bed, and the coral reef protects guests any “less than friendly” sea predators.
Get up close and personal with colourful reef fish, coral and the famous Tangalooma Wrecks.
You can choose to snorkel on your Dolphins in Paradise cruise and we highly recommend that you do! Our boys have become big fans of taking to the water to explore under the sea. You can expect to see stingrays, the occasional octopus, crayfish, beautiful reef fish, sea turtles and even a Wobbegong shark (again harmless). #trustmeimatravelblogger 😉
Exploring the Tangalooma Wrecks is also a big adventure for kids – especially boys who’s imaginations run wild with the thoughts of treasure and pirates!
Tip: Capture the travel memory – bring an underwater camera.
Sail the seas on a unique marine wildlife tour.
An expert guide provides commentary on the interesting history of Moreton whilst also pointing out dolphins and an abundance of sea turtles! It’s amazing to see these animals in their natural habitat and if you haven’t ever watched fish feeding in action…prepare to be delighted!
Tip: Make sure you head to the top deck of the vessel to get the best views.
Preparing for your day cruise with kids
– Sunscreen is essential even on overcast days when it can easily be forgotten. Remember to slip, slop, slap always! Being prepared means you can enjoy more of the cruise from the top deck.
– Pack a towel and a change a clothes. If you are visiting during the cooler months (when they also offer Whale Watching experiences!), remember a jumper for the ride home. Packing a waterproof bag for your wet gear is also helpful.
– A working bar with drinks and basic snacks is available; but if you have a child with special dietary requirements please pack snacks that you know your children will like. Food is provided all day and includes: A morning tea of coffee/tea and biscuits, a chicken and seafood lunch with a range of salads, followed by fresh fruit for afternoon tea.
– Bring quiet-time activities for while you are cruising to Moreton and back. Dolphin and turtle spotting will occupy a good part of their time; but I always like to bring a back-up. Colouring-in, card games, sticker books and if you have one… an iPad with headphones. Nb. Free wi-fi is available onboard.
