Singapore: World Class Travel For Kids

We loved Singapore for it’s child-friendly access, squeaky cleanness and world class everything. We recently spent a very enjoyable week here with our two boys and could have easily spent a month.

As far as travel destinations go, you can’t get much more child-friendly than Singapore.  You’ll feel the tensions of the flight almost dissolve on touchdown to the very kid friendly Changi Airport – it’s not every day you come across an Airport Terminal with a movie theater, butterfly garden, kids playgrounds and multi-story slippery slide!   singapore jeff

Where to stay

We did our research and made sure we booked accommodation that was going to be suitable for our two young children.  In this instance an apartment stay in Frasers Place Clarke Quay was idea for us.  A two bedroom apartment with kitchen, laundry was perfect with us, and the hotel facilities offered a splash pool and playground for the kids.  This is a family friendly hotel chain. They prepared the baby cot for us with sheets that were made from their signature duck print and had welcome packs for both my husband and I and the children waiting for us in the room. The boys pack included healthy treats, a jigsaw puzzle, a stuffed toy and a book.  Very cute and a welcome surprise.

Getting around

We hired a car with car seats for days when we went outside of the CBD and found it very easy to navigate. Our car took us to The Singapore Zoo and Dempsey Hill which I found to be an absolute gem.  Lots of little shops and cafes including an indoor play centre for the kids. Tip: If you have a long wait before your flight leaves and when you check out of your hotel – consider taking the children to a playcafe for a few hours. They get to burn off energy and you get to relax before a long flight with them.  Make sure you have some clean clothes and socks ready for them to change into because they will get sweaty.  We did this on our trip and it worked a treat.

On other days we either walked (yes, in the heat as we pushed our double stroller along #fitness) or caught the train. The train system, again was extremely easy.  The cable car to Sentosa is also a highlight. Do not miss it and look out for special events that they offer – like Superhero themed rides!

What to

Singapore Zoo – we visited at night for the night safari. What an experience! We are so glad we kept the boys up late for this!

– Visited Sentosa by Cable Car – iFly, Luge, Universal Studios and beach days.   It’s very quick and easy to get here and worth the trip.  Nb. We did not purchase fast passes for Universal Singapore.  We visited in November and found the lines to be very quick and the park not overly busy. It was an easy day out with the kids. Their favourite ride was Madagascar.

Singapore Gardens  – this part of Singapore is so beautiful. You could spend a day here.

– Ride the Singapore Flyer!  Who doesn’t love a good Ferris Wheel. Oversized and magnificent.

– Check-out Marina Bay Sands for shopping but also for good eats. We had a meal at top of this infamous building and it was spectacular to look over the city and take in the nightly lightshows. Nb. Bookings are a must!

Singapore Sling – Stop in at the very famous Raffles!
