If you were to ask me a week ago what travel gadget I couldn’t be without, I’d probably tell you my dry shampoo or packing cubes – but that was then and this is now. The year is 2018 and it’s time to take advantage of the wonderful world of automation and robots.
Over the past week, I’ve been testing out the brand new DEEBOT OZMO 900 by ECOVACS ROBOTICS. Sounds futuristic right? Correct. Our DEEBOT is like something from The Jetsons. In fact, let’s call it Rosie.
Rosie mops, Rosie sweeps, Rosie vacuums – Rosie does “all the things” the first time you ask her and she’s changed my world!
WHY I LOVE ROSIE FOR TRAVEL
For anyone who likes to come home from a holiday to a tidy house, you need Rosie. Before any trip I neurotically run around making the beds with fresh sheets, tidy the house and clean the floors. Am I alone in this? Please tell me that there is someone else out there who does this!
Getting the floors done takes ages and it’s the last thing that I feel like doing while I’m trying to pack for the family trip or doing other “important things”.
Discovering that a robot can skillfully do the job of cleaning the floors either before I go away or while I’m on my trip (actioned from an app) is an absolute game changer. It’s one less thing to worry about, the unit even charges itself and impressively it can clean for up to 110 minutes per charge!
HOW THE DEEBOT OZMO 900 WORKS
The DEEBOT is controlled by your phone via the ECOVACS Home App. I won’t bore you with all the details but you basically connect your DEEBOT to your home wi-fi and control the app from anywhere you’d rather be.
When you first get the DEEBOT going, it will take a little bit longer than normal to do the first clean. It’s essentially mapping out your house. You’ll be able to see from the app a pretty accurate virtual map of your home and can then set boundaries for the DEEBOT to visit of avoid. You can get pretty specific and tell it to spot clean any area on the map to quickly and directly help with accidents and spills. #wherehaveyoubeenallmylife #cleantheboysroom
I found it worked best when I lifted chairs and light-weight mats off the floor – giving it a clear and easy path and was really impressed with how thorough it was. It went under my lounge with ease and was methodical. No spot was missed!
We also put it to work on our dusty balcony. My husband couldn’t believe how it collected so much dust so accurately. The sun hitting the tiles and offering streak-free finish along with the amount of dirt in the collection unit was enough evidence to sell him on the idea.
We have a few stairs in our house and I was worried at first that it was going to be like Jack and Jill and fall down the hill, but it was smart enough to stop before this could happen. Its anti-collision sensors prevented the DEEBOT from doing this or from damaging walls or furniture.
It goes at a gentle and steady pace, that the kids actually found pretty entertaining. They also loved that you can talk to it. If you’ve got Google Home or Amazon Alexa you can do this too!
THE VERDICT
With 3-in-1 built-in applications in the compact unit, I found it pretty handy. I loved that a thorough mop and vacuum that could be commanded at any time and from anywhere. What more could you ask for. Thanks Rosie!
