We Found Dory! At the movies AND at Walt Disney World

boys finding dory

Although it’s been 13 years since the release of ‘Finding Nemo’ our boys still know and love it and now we can happily add ‘Finding Dory‘ to their favourites list.   Aside from the obvious high entertainment value of a movie like this, I love seeing a flick where I can pick up a few new “parenting pearlers”.

Since seeing this movie on Wednesday i’ve already used the following lines with the boys to help avert many a mini meltdown:

Me: “But what would Dory do? Would Dory give up?”

Kids:  “NO!

Me: “Good. Just keep swimming!”

Mum 1. Kids 0. #YES!

It was so great seeing our old friends back on the big screen and it helped bring the travel memories from our epic trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando last year to come flooding back.

One memory involved “The Seas with Nemo & Friends” ride at Magic Kingdom’s EPCOT. This is an all ages ride where you ride a clam shell to go under the sea to find …you guessed it…Nemo!   The ride was spectacular and well worth the 1 hour wait even with a Fastpass.  On the day that we visited someone with a selfie stick managed to stop the entire ride – no not us! Promise!  Note: This was the day before they banned selfie sticks in their parks.

On our trip we also visited EPCOT’s SeaBase. This is the place to go if you’re looking to find Nemo and Dory along with an ocean full of under-the-sea magic.

It’s flooded with interactive displays and exhibits and is home to a massive coral reef aquarium that proudly features dolphins, turtles, stingrays, sharks (read: Bruce the Shark) and more. Little eyes lit up when they saw this!

On our visit to EPCOT we also visited ‘Future World’.

Here we got to talk  is 1 on 1 with Crush the Turtle in an amazing interactive exhibit where you ask him questions and he answers in real time.  This exhibit has been updated to reflect the new movie, and Crush as part of his 15 minute ‘turtle talk’ with children now introduces some of his new friends from the new movie.

‘Finding Dory’  has given a whole new generation of kids the opportunity to become familiar with these very lovely characters and their amazing story and it’s easy to see how the movie will live on at Disney Parks.

The Plot

‘Finding Dory’ reunites the friendly-but-forgetful Dory with her loved ones and everyone learns a few things about the true meaning of family and friendship along the way. The movie takes you on a heartfelt journey of determination against all odds with many enjoyable twists and turns.

Tip: Stay for the final credits and see a great bonus scene that ties back beautifully to ‘Finding Nemo’.

The Verdict

We loved ‘Finding Dory’ and found it perfect for children of all ages with some wonderful messaging around family values and friendship.

There were no scary bits to report, just beautiful animation that we’ve come to know and expect from Pixar and Walt Disney Studios and enjoyable viewing.
